WHAT IS ASPHALT CRACK FILLING?

Asphalt crack filling is a method of asphalt crack repair. Some cracking is normal wear, but crack sealing can double the life of your asphalt parking lot. Two types of crack filler, cold pour and hot pour, are effective fillers. Cold pour is liquid based, pourable, and what we use to seal cracks as part of our standard sealing service. We use this to fill cracks up to ½”. Hot pour is used to fill larger cracks up to 1-½”. This sealant is heated to 350 degrees before being applied directly to the cracks. Although no crack filler is permanent, hot pour is a longer-lasting product.

CRACK TYPES TO SEAL

  • Longitudinal cracks. To prevent alligator cracking and structural failure, sealing cracks measuring 1/2 inch or less will prevent moisture from entering into the sub grade.
  • Transverse cracks. Cracks measuring 1/2 inch or less should also be sealed to prevent moisture from entering into the sub grade.
  • Raveling is very porous, eroding asphalt on the pavement surface. Repair raveling by applying a thin hot-mix overlay.
